Sapphic Prom Outfit Ideas: Suits, Dresses and Everything Between

Your prom, your rules

For lots of queer people, school prom came with expectations about dates, clothing and who they were allowed to be. A sapphic prom is a chance to make new memories without repeating those rules.

The suit moment

A sharply cut suit can be minimalist, colourful, oversized, tailored or covered in accessories. Consider how the jacket feels when you're dancing, and whether you'd prefer a waistcoat or open collar.

Dresses without the rules

Go full ballgown, a slinky slip, something short and sparkly or a dress you already love. You don't need to match anyone's idea of femininity. Mix silhouettes and shoes however you like.

Co-ords, jumpsuits and in-between looks

Matching sets and jumpsuits can be great alternatives. Layer a blazer over something unexpected or build an outfit around one standout piece. There's no need to categorise your style.

Accessories that make the outfit

Corsages, ties, hair bows, jewellery, bags and fun socks can make a simple look feel special. If sensory comfort matters to you, skip irritating fabrics and choose accessories you can actually wear for hours.

Dress for the memories

Try the whole outfit on before the event. Sit, walk and dance in it. If you're coming to QueerMCR's Sapphic Ever After prom, the most important accessory is feeling like yourself.
